Jan K. Apo

Jan K. Apo

Attorney at Law
Jan K. Apo is the lead attorney of Apo, Reck and Kusachi.  Jan was born in Lahaina, Maui, and graduated from Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu on Oahu. He then went on to attain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Whittier College in California. After graduating from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai’i, Jan worked as a trial lawyer for a large government office and later became the managing partner for a mid-size private law firm.  In 1994, Jan started his own practice, the Law Offices of Jan K. Apo. In addition to his admittance to the Hawai’i State and Federal Courts, Jan is certified to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. He has also served as a Per Diem District Court Judge of the Second Circuit Court, State of Hawai’i. After 19 years of service, he has recently stepped down from the bench and no longer serves as a part-time Judge.

Mark D. Reck

Mark D. Reck

Relocating to Maui in 2008, Mark Reck has been practicing law in Hawai’i since 2010. Originally working with the Law Offices of Jan K. Apo, Mark is a graduate of the Stetson University College of Law, located in Gulfport, Florida and is licensed to practice in all State and Federal Courts of Hawai’i. Mark also received his Master of Business Administration from Stetson University, and he holds degrees in International Business and Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In addition to his normal legal practice, he is a registered Notary Public for the State of Hawai’i, a Court-Appointed Foreclosure Commissioner for the Second Circuit Court, a Certified Mediator for Maui Mediation Services, and a PADI Certified Dive Instructor. Mark is a founding partner of our firm and prides himself on our service of our clients' legal needs with integrity and professionalism from start to finish.

Naomi M. Kusachi

Naomi M. Kusachi

Attorney at Law
Naomi M. Kusachi has been practicing law since 2013 and moved to Maui in 2016 to work with the Law Offices of Jan K. Apo. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Kusachi practiced in Honolulu, Hawaii and worked as a staff attorney at a non-profit legal services organization following her graduation from law school. Ms. Kusachi received her undergraduate degree with honors in English and American Studies in 2010. Ms. Kusachi earned her J.D. in 2013 from the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii. During law school, Ms. Kusachi worked as an Americorps member at the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii where she participated in the creation of the Honolulu District Court Access to Justice Room. In 2013, Ms. Kusachi served as a summer law clerk to the Honorable R. Mark Browning of the Family Court, State of Hawaii and went on to work as a law clerk at a private law firm. Ms. Kusachi is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Courts of Hawaii and California, State Courts of Hawaii, and State Courts of California.

Trevor Tamashiro

Trevor Tamashiro

Attorney at Law
Trevor N. Tamashiro joined Apo Reck & Kusachi in November 2023. Prior to joining the firm his practice focused on commercial and construction litigation, drafting and negotiating construction contracts, matters relating public procurement law, and general corporate affairs. He has successfully represented private contractors in HRS Chapter 103D procurement hearings and subsequent appeals.

Trevor has served as In House Counsel for a large general contractor and as Associate General Counsel at a public utility. He has litigated, arbitrated, and mediated various construction and commercial disputes in both the State and Federal District Courts of Hawaii.

Trevor received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Willamette University and Masters in Business Administration from the Shidler College of Business. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law, with a certificate in Environmental Law. During law school, he served as Technical Editor of the University of Hawaii Law Review, worked on numerous civil rights and social justice projects in the Scholar Advocacy Program, and published a comment in the Asian Pacific Law and Policy Journal, “Molokai: Resurrecting Aha Moku on the ‘Last Hawaiian Island.’”

He is licensed to practice law in the State of Hawaii and its District Courts.

During his free time, Trevor enjoys surfing, golfing, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
